Equipping Parents to Discuss Difficult Issues
As our kids grow, so do their questions - and the topics aren’t always easy to navigate. This class taught by Ashlie Hufferd, San Marcos/Escondido children's ministry pastor, will help you engage in honest, faith-filled, and age-appropriate conversations with your children on challenging subjects like family values, peer influence, anxiety, technology use, doubts about faith, sex, pornography, and gender and sexuality. Designed especially for parents of late elementary and middle schoolers, you’ll leave with practical tools to approach these topics without shame, grounded in biblical truth, and with the goal of keeping dialogue open and ongoing.
We’ll also explore foundational tools like using healthy, accurate vocabulary (including anatomical terms), creating low-pressure settings for these conversations (such as while driving or walking—no eye contact required!), and learning to sit with silence rather than rushing to fill it. These small shifts can help create safe, ongoing dialogue as your kids grow.
